
For 13 years, I designed sound for Broadway shows. And here's what I learned that most business consultants never experience: true collaboration. In theatre, every department is fully functional on its own—lighting knows lighting, costumes know costumes, sound knows sound. But they work together through a common language, a shared vision. I just assumed that's how the world worked.
When I became CEO of a multi-location furniture retail business I walked straight into hierarchical chaos. And I thought, okay, I need to learn this system. So I did. I learned to lead within hierarchy, and things were... fine. We were doing okay. But nothing spectacular was happening. We'd hit a ceiling I couldn't understand.
Then a board member decided to undermine everything we were building. Sabotage, really. My managers were coming to me daily: "You have to fix this. We can't function like this." I tried every management move I knew. Nothing worked. This person just kept going.
I'd been coaching people since 2008—studying biofeedback, nervous system regulation, emotional energy mastery. I became a Certified Biofeedback Specialist because I was fascinated by how we could train ourselves to walk through fire with peace and calm. Not by suppressing emotion, but by mastering our internal state. These weren't just theories for me. I'd used them to navigate the pressure of leading two companies and navigating personal health journeys simultaneously, to stay centered when everything around me was falling apart.
What I now call Applied Neuro-Performance Techniques™ started there, methods that work with nervous system regulation, leadership presence, team performance. In that moment, I tried one. Didn't tell anyone. Just me doing this work.
Two weeks later, that same board member was taking me to lunch, telling me how brilliant I was, wanting to be on my team. Complete flip.
My managers saw it. They came to me: "What did you do? You must have sold us out because nobody changes like that unless they got what they wanted." I said, "Listen, I didn't sell you out. But I did something that's not normal corporate behavior. And if I teach you, you can never not know this. So you have to choose."


That's when everything shifted. We brought these techniques into the company—anyone who wanted to learn them could. And that's when sales skyrocketed. That's when the average ticket size doubled. That's when we figured out how to coordinate departments without the friction, the blame, the resentment. People were happier. Cohesive connection became the norm. We built an ecosystem where people felt safe to grow, communicate, and stay, because emotional integrity was woven into the way we led.
99.5% retention. 600% revenue growth. And I stopped micromanaging and learned to lead with grace and efficiency.
Everything transformed when we paired energetic intelligence with a solid operational structure. The system held the people — and the people held the system.
Because systems alone weren't enough.
